To all of the Baby Boomers (or those who didn't make the boomer cut, or children of boomers, or any generation) out there wondering what this "hot" Bikram yoga is all about -- let me tell you, it's the Fountain of Youth.
A friend brought me to class with the declaration that Bikram Yoga had transformed her life. Now that's quite a statement and I had to experience that transformation for myself. I came to class because I wanted an opportunity to jumpstart my health. I have been living with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia for over a decade. I have just completed day 42 and my goal is to attend 60 classes in a row. Bikram has written a wonderful book titled "Bikram's Beginning Yoga Class". He encourages anyone with health issues to attend classes and advises that in 60 days you'll be doing the postures like the other yogis in class and with a new body to boot! The benefits are truly amazing. My skin is baby soft (moisturizer no longer needed), restless leg syndrome . . . gone, strength, flexibility, endurance, and the gift of serenity can all be attributed to the yoga. I truly can feel my body and spirit getting stronger.
This continues to be such a rewarding experience. The accomplishment that one feels after completing a 90 minute workout in a heated room. The benefits of detox from all that sweating. The workout never grows old. Every day you'll notice changes in the depth and length of time you hold the postures, or how different your clothes fit, or how deeply you're sleeping and how much more energy you have.
Oh! You'll also notice that you cannot stop talking about Bikram Yoga once you attend a class. No worries, when friends and family get that tortured look on their faces, your yogi buddies are more than willing to listen to your ramblings. The comraderie and atmosphere in the studio is so supportive,non-judgemental and friendly. The teachers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Give it a try. You'll be so happy you did.
