I have been exercising for 30 years. I have done step aerobics, graduating to running and weight training. I eventually got into competitive running. I have trained for and run 5 marathons, several half-marathons and 5k and 10k races too numerous to count. For the past 15 years I have put my body through rigorous marathon training. I have suffered through many injuries. Recently I have discovered that all of this exercising has been detrimental to my body and overall health. My back, knees and ankles were chronically aching. I could not sleep well because of the pain in my legs and back. I attributed this all to my age. How wrong I was! I started attending the Bikram Yoga studio to try to increase my flexibility for running. I soon discovered that my running was the cause of all of my aches and pains. Not only that, my sleeping is returning to normal. I attribute this to the healing power of Yoga. My body is healing itself through the step by step process of Bikram's regimen of postures and breathing. I have all but given up running and am now happily practicing Yoga with all of the health benefits that follow. I can honestly say that my peri-menopause symptoms have become an afterthough instead of an all-consuming daily battle. My body is calmer, easier to move and healthier since I began. Did I mention the weight loss? The fat is melting off my body. The release of toxins from my cells is allowing my cells to function at their peak efficiency. I have never felt more alive, energized and ready for the day. Thank-you Bikram for your dedication to the prevention of disease and the start of a healthier new way of life.
